The Republic of Adjara, Georgia’s capital city of Batumi is home to the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University. The Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University is a crucial hub for cultural and educational endeavors. Its commitment to offering top-notch instruction is the most notable aspect of its extensive 80-year history. In 1893, the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University was founded as a naval project to construct a gymnasium for boys, and subsequently for girls as well. 

Significant alterations were made to the structure of universities in 1935, including the addition of new academic programs, training programs, and literature. The university currently has state-of-the-art facilities and technology, providing the ideal environment for learning. The Georgian community worked for a long time to establish and develop the educational tool in Adjara. 

There had been protests in 1893 over the opening of a boys’ gymnasium in Batumi. The Municipality of the City granted 2,623,935 square meters of land for the Boys’ Gymnasium by the Sea on June 26–27, 1893. The challenge was originally created by Sedelnikov, an army engineer. The building’s second floor housed the church, meeting hall, eight classrooms, physics study room, lab, and library. The first floor of the building was designated for a gym. The first day of operation for the Boys’ Gymnasium was July 1897. It became feasible to open a women’s gymnasium on September 26, 1900. With the help of 1923, a Pedagogical Institute was later established in the structure that once housed the Women’s Gymnasium (now Public School No. 2), and it eventually expanded to become a Pedagogical College. It serves to prepare teachers in the early grades.
