Hanoi Medical University | Fee | All Details | Admission Process

Hanoi Medical University is Vietnam’s oldest university, located in Hanoi. The French established HMU in 1902, during the French colonial period, as Indochina Medical College. Alexandre Yersin, the first director of the HMU, co-discovered the bacteria that causes bubonic plague and gave it the name Yersinia pestis in his honor.
HMU, previously known as Indochina Medical University, was established in 1902. It was Vietnam’s first modern institution, ranking second only to the Temple of Literature among all Vietnamese universities. In 1961, Hanoi Pharmaceutical University broke from his HMU and relocated to the old campus. The property was also shared with the Faculty of Science at Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

HMU has relocated to a newly constructed campus at its current location on Thong Tat Tung Road. It is named after one of its directors and is located next to Hanoi’s major hospital, Bach Mai Hospital. We also have an office in Viet Duc Hospital. Affiliated educational institutions include the National Pediatric Hospital, National Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, E Hospital, National Cancer Hospital, National Institute of Hematology and Transfusion, National Tropical Disease Hospital, National Dermatology and Venereal Hospital, and Duc Giang Hospital. Hanoi Medical University Hospital has its own clinic.
HMU is considered Vietnam’s most prominent medical university, with highly demanding entry tests.
