When it was first opened in 1944 by F.M. Lazarenko as the Chkalov Medical Institute, Orenburg State Medical University is in the Russian city of Orenburg. In 1994, this medical school changed its name to the Orenburg State Medical University based on a decision made by the Russian Higher School Committee.Â
