Southern Medical University, which used to be called First Military Medical University and is connected to the People’s Liberation Army of China, is a college in Guangzhou, China, which is the capital city of Guangdong Province. It has been around since 1951 and was named a national key university in 1979. The university was given permission by the State Council and the Central Military Commission of the PLA to become part of Guangdong Province in August 2004. It was then given the name Southern Medical University.
In Guangzhou, Southern Medical University is at the base of the beautiful Baiyun Mountain. The south campus and the main campus are both in a southern suburb of Guangzhou. Together, they cover an area of almost one square kilometer. It has been named a first-class garden-like university because rows of green trees provide shade and flower bouquets bloom all year long on the campuses.
At the Bachelor’s and Master’s levels, this university offers courses in Western medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, economics, and other fields related to medicine. Mandarin Chinese is taught to students from outside of China, and English is taught to students from China.
